Lumières sur le renouveau de l’art sacré. 100 ans du Groupe de Saint-Luc
Th Vitromusée Romont presents an exhibition devoted to the glass art of the Groupe de Saint-Luc, an artistic society that modernised and reinvented religious art throughout Switzerland, particularly in the French-speaking Romandie region. Founded in 1919 in Geneva and initially bringing together a handful of people in the Romandie, the Groupe de Saint-Luc was reborn in 1924 on a national scale under the name Société Saint-Luc. Its legacy was the creation of an exceptional artistic heritage, particularly in the field of glass art. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Société’s foundation in 2024, the Vitromusée Romont would like to pay tribute to this artistic phenomenon, which left such a strong mark on art and architecture in the Romandie. From 2019 to 2024, a major research project was devoted to studying the glass art produced in the context of the Groupe de Saint-Luc, the so-far unpublished results of which will be presented for the first time as part of this exhibition.
The exhibition is organised into six sections, presenting the beginnings of the Société, its spread throughout the Romandie, its approach to modernity and the artistic and technical innovations it proposed, as well as its relationship to religious architecture. The exhibition concludes with a look at the Saint-Luc’s legacy in the second half of the 20th century, and its current development.
