Thomas Blank

Thomas Blank (*1973) is a Swiss artist who has worked with glass for over 25 years. In 1996 he moved to the United States to study plastic arts at San Francisco State University. Graduating with a Bachelor degree in sculpture in 2001, he returned to Switzerland to continue his work as an independent artist and educator. He worked in several different workshops and gained professional experience at glassworks in Murano, Italy.

His work is represented in the collections of the Contemporary Museum Honolulu, the Musée cantonal de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains (MUDAC) in Lausanne, the Museum für Gestaltung Zurich as well as in various private collections in North America and Europe, among others. In 2020 he founded his own company, Open Glass Studio, with his partner, in which he produces objects in limited series. He is currently working on his own creations but also executes works for other artists and designers, helping them to realise their ideas in glass.

For his exhibition in the Passerelle, Thomas Blank was inspired by the colour spectrum for his multicoloured blown glass bottles. Other objects demonstrate the dynamism of colour in relation to the thickness of the material in the form of images composed of cast glass.
